Measuring Social Media Marketing Success!

At some point, the decision to use social media marketing or convincing someone else to do so eventually comes down to justifying the expenditure of resources and time. This typically involves measuring the success of the effort. Measuring the effectiveness of using social media to promote a business can be done both qualitatively and quantitatively. Most people feel more confident and comfortable with numbers, so social media metrics dominate, such as Return on Investment (ROI), Web analytics, and other similar quantitative assessments.

The following resources provide a variety of useful methods and tools for measuring the success of social media marketing campaigns:

  1. Great post! I really enjoyed reading the various ways to evaluate the success of social media marketing campaign.

  2. You are most welcome. Each day brings new and more powerful tools for tracking the success of a social media marketing campaign. I will revisit this topic in the near future, with some of these new or improved measurement tools.

  3. When it comes to measuring your return on investment, otherwise known as ROI, web services like Google Analytics can prove indispensable. In the case of Social Media Marketing, these advanced web applications allow webmasters and business owners alike to monitor how well their current online marketing campaigns are performing.

By tracking what your internet visitors are viewing the most, you will determine what content you should produce in the future, and on the flip-side, you can make informed decisions about what content to remove. Simply seeing where your visitors come from (the source), will help you in selecting the proper avenues for advertisement purposes.

  4. Great information, Thank you. I had no idea that these applications/programs even existed. I guessing that one could also view the number hits/clicks per link as a tool to help determine the viewer count/interest on specific topics.
Is the Google Analytics an application provided with the subscription to Google Server and Webpage services or is it an app that must be purchased, installed and run from your server?
    Thank you for the knowledge,

  6. Measuring the success of anything can be a difficult task. The information you provide is an excellent source for understanding how and what should be measured. I once had a boss who told me, "You can only manage what you can measure". This hold true in many applications.

I am also am intrigued by another blog on this site that begins with a quote from Albert Einstein, "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts". So it makes me wonder, what really counts, especially in a changing economy.
